The Dormeo Octasmart Fresh Composition
The Dormeo Octasmart Fresh is compiled with four layers each playing their part to the overall performance of the mattress. The overall height of the Dormeo mattress is 14cm which is well below the mattress standard of 25cm. This makes it very thin, yet makes the effects of the layers more resounding and felt as will be demonstrated through this review.

Silver fibre cover
The cover at the very top of the Dormeo Octasmart features sanitized protection, possessing anti-bacterial qualities. This prevents from harmful and irritating bacteria 🦠emerging and causing skin infections or excacerbating any open wounds you may have when using the mattress with the silver fibers killing common bacteria effectively. The anti-bacterial nature of the silver fibres actually has a positive impact of skincare and facial spot-purity. 👩This is because when dirt or bacteria sits upon the face for a while this can be adversive for the skin due to the microbes blocking up the pores, consequently engendering acne. Nobody really wants that.😒 In extension, the cover is anti-odour. This is important because trapped moisture, particularly sweat and saliva🤤 for open-mouth sleepers can become trapped in mattress materials and can smell. The natural silver of the cover repels this odour, so you constantly have a fresh smelling cover and mattress. This of course means less work for you because you have to worry about washing🧺 the silver fibre cover much less than you would for a regular mattress cover. Furthermore the cover is anti-static. This is just an added bonus which may not have great significance, but by preventing the build up of electrical static, the cover prevents you from getting those nasty static shocks that can occur. These three countering aspects of the cover give it an almost magical✨ feeling and illustrate the natural power that silver has.
Memory foam layer
The layer of luxurious memory foam does really what you'd expect from traditional memory foam. It is the lower comfort layer or the transitional layer of the mattress. The Dormeo Octasmart Fresh plus is basically identical 🥂to the Octasmart Fresh, but the plus part which boosts its price 📈and makes it different is simply that the Dormeo memory foam layer of the Octasmart Plus has added depth which adds another 3cm to the total height of the mattress. This extra memory foam is supposed to just upgrade the memory-effect of the foam.
Octacell layer
The layer of foam in the Dormeo Octasmart Fresh has been constructed and applied in an unusual,👽 but very innovative fashion, again reinforcing that Italian style reputation highlighted earlier. The Octacell is a proprietary Octasmart technology which is built with a secret formula, 🤫so even we find certain parts of it mysterious 👻and beyond our reach. However what we do know is that the Octacell has been reimagined from the Octaspring technology. The Octaspring foam springs are used in the Dormeo Octaspring mattress topper. We have personally assessed the octaspring in the mattress topper and it is an 8-sided foam spring structure of comfort pockets that absorbs🧽 pressure very well. The fundamental principle of the Octaspring technology was borrowed and reinterpreted, so that the 8-sided aspect was lost and the effect was interpolated into a flat 🥿foam surface instead. It was applied in the Dormeo Octasmart Hybrid mattress. The foam springs work effectively in providing comfort to the Dormeo Octasmart Hybrid mattress. Therefore if it works well in that hybrid mattress that is what you can expect in the Octasmart Fresh. The Octacell layer is symmetrically divided up across a gridded system of 10,000 cells that are individually filled with air.
Ecocell foam base
This foam layer is the very foundation of the Octasmart Fresh and is centralised around another patented technology called Ecocell. This ecocell foam is constructed📐 as cellular composition that serves as optimal support for the rest of the mattress.

Would you be disturbed by a sleeping partners movement?
The Octacell grid of 10,000 is constructed in a way to act as individual points of support. Their independence means the ripple effect🌊 of motion transfer, transmitted from one side of a mattress to another is kept low. Therefore it is recommendable for sleeping couples👫 due to how disturbance is mitigated and the chance for sleep being preserved is rather high.
Thermal regulation
Does it get too hot?
The Octasmart Fresh's cooling abilities comes down to the Octacell technology it uses. It has to act against the intrinsic problem with memory foam mattresses which is that it is known for having poor heat dissipating qualities.🥵 This complication comes with the fact that the viscoelastic behaviour of a memory foam mattress is made possible by its response to the heat🔥 and pressure generated by the subject on it. This means the memory foam needs to be able to absorb the heat, respond with its adaptable properties, but prevent the warmth from being transmitted back to the person sleeping on it, whilst promoting cooling agents to keep the person comfortable after the heat has activated the Dormeo memory foams qualities. You can no doubt see the issue here. However Dormeo purposefully included the Octacell layer to nullify this dilema. The open air cells allows air to be circulated🌀 through the mattress and prevents the trapping of heat. This ensures you are kept cool😎 and in fact the essential grid of cells brings 25 X more coolness to the mattress.
Firmness
How supportive is the mattress? Is it very hard? Are the sinkage depth levels extreme?
The overall firmness of the Octasmart Fresh is fairly balanced and is considered to be medium to firm, so it is slightly off-centre and more solid 🧱than it is soft It falls close to the centre of the firmness scale due to the elasticity of the Ecocell base which keeps you from sinking too far, but keeps you buouyant too.🎈
Pressure relief
Does it support where it matters and alleviate pressure?
The reason for for the Octasmart Fresh's great pressure relief are the 10,000 air-filled cells which alleviate pressure across the body, removing 🚫the build up of pressure points like a miniature pocket spring would because it is specifically engineered to contour closely around every body type. This creates these comfort pockets essentially. The moulding diminshes tension and brings a high level of comfort 😊 and optimal support.
Responsiveness and adaptability
Is it viscoelastic? Will it conform to your body? Is it quick to respond?
The responsiveness of the foam mattress mainly comes down to the memory foam layer of the mattress. It is a manifestation of the four memory effects, network, adhesive, pneumatic 💨and the relaxation effect which work synergistically🐜 within traditional memory foam to create an elite level of responsiveness. Spinal alignment promotion
Will it support your back and neck?
The Octasmart Fresh promotes the alignment of the spine through the Octacell modular technology. The Octacell grid closely complies to the body's neutral alignment. This is important because there is no over-extension or excessive rigidity 🦴which will have a bad effect on your spine, but it also not going to simply fold beneath you. This means the natural curvature of the spinal column is preserved to protect you🥽 from serious damage in that area from a mattress not designed to keep your back and neck in check.
Edge support
Is it sturdy around the edges? Does the mattress collapse on the sides?
An advantage of being in a thin mattress is that when the outer edges tend to lack the same sturdiness as the central parts it is less evident than with a thicker mattress. This is the case with the Dormeo. It doesn't have great edge support, but it's thin enough for it to be a minor problem. If you are looking👀 for a mattress with great edge support, then the Simba Hybrid is an option as well as the Otty Original Hybrid which has lateral panels that fit around the mattress sides.
Off-gassing
Does it produce gas?
Most memory foam mattresses experience quite a bit of off-gassing. This is caused by the release of VOC's or Volatile Organic Compounds which are not proven to cause harm. 💀The Dormeo Octasmart Fresh experiences this too. This produces a bit of an unpleasant smell which can be an issue for sensitive noses. ��However with the Fresh it is likely to subside quite quickly.⏱

Dormeo have designed the Octacell technology of their Octasmart to bring down their environmental footprint 🥾by 50%. Furthermore the Octasmart has been certified by OEKO-TEX. They verify the safety and environmental cleanness🧼 of certain companies and their certification qualifies the Octasmart as being eco-friendly.
Breathability
Will sweat be wicked away?
Dormeo have addressed memory foam's typical lack of breathability in their Octasmart Fresh by designing it with a special cell structure which increases its moisture transmission capacity. 💧 This keeps sweat from from building up and pushes it out to be evaporated. 🌞This does much to prevent you from being disturbed by perspiration. 😓The mattress cover is also composed of cotton which enhances the mattress's overall breathability since natural cotton is an organic material which has moisture-wicking properties which stems from its absorption qualities. Durability
Is it resilient? Will it last for a long time?
There are no particular features of the Dormeo Octasmart Fresh which make it durable. Whilst the mattress is not likely to dissolve right beneath you one day or night ,🌛 you should be aware of the likelihood of the quality diminishing a lot over time ⏳ and it turning from a new mattress to an old mattress in terms of its characteristics.
